The district's purpose is to help recover $84.4 million invested in expanding Vandiver Drive.
Columbia is the new home of CenterState Transportation Development District, a 190.5 acre retail development that aims to attract new business and industry to the area.
Curtis McDonald is the sole landowner in the district, located off Vandiver Drive. However, the district is a quasigovernmental body with the ability to levy a sales tax of up to 1 percent of in any increment of 1/8 percent.
The districts purpose is to help McDonald, the city, and Boone County recover $8.5 million invested in expanding Vandiver Drive to the CenterState property through a sales tax on future district retailers.
